Project Build Program
Bench time, real metal, real coachbuilding — guided one-on-one by Wray Schelin.
The ProShaper Project Build Program is intensive, personalized shop time for students who want to learn real metal shaping and coachbuilding by doing the work.
This is not a classroom demo. You are in the shop, working hands-on with real metal, real tools, and real projects under the direct guidance of master coachbuilder Wray Schelin.
After offering monthly coachbuilding classes from 2005 through 2024 and training well over a thousand students from around the world, Wray has shifted fully into a more personal format: one-on-one coachbuilding classes.
Limited availability. Serious beginners, hobbyists, restorers, and professional fabricators are all welcome.
Introducing the One-on-One Program
You are in the shop with ProShaper — not watching from the sidelines.
Each class is built around your goals, your skill level, and the work in front of you. You may learn while working on one of Wray's coachbuilding projects, or you may bring your own approved project into the shop.
Expect real tools, real metal, direct feedback, and hands-on instruction from someone with decades of experience in high-end collector car work.
Wray will demonstrate, guide, correct, and step in when needed, but the goal is for you to do the work and build real skill.
What This Experience Is
This is hands-on fabrication, metal shaping, and coachbuilding instruction inside a working shop.
Depending on the project and your goals, you may work on:
- English wheel techniques
- Power hammer work
- Planishing
- Hand forming
- Aluminum shaping
- Welding and fitting
- Panel repair
- Coachbuilt body sections
- Custom automotive panels
- Motorcycle, architectural, furniture, or sculpture-related metalwork
There is no scripted classroom kit. Progress comes from repetition, correction, and sticking with real panels and assemblies until the work is right.
Why This Is Different
Most classes either demonstrate techniques in isolation or keep students on practice pieces that never become part of a real build.
At ProShaper, the work is real.
Fit matters. Shape matters. Finish matters. The details matter.
You get the tools, the shop space, and the pressure of actual coachbuilding work — with direct mentorship so you do not have to learn the hard lessons alone.

Program Details
Scheduling is built around your goals, your project, your skill level, and shop availability.
Before booking, Wray will discuss what you want to learn, what kind of project you want to work on, and what can realistically be accomplished in the time you schedule.
If you are bringing your own project, it must be approved before the class is scheduled.
Some projects may require more time, preparation, or material planning than others. The intake call helps make sure the expectations are clear before you commit.
